Maybe It’s The Musicians!
“The right song at the right time can change history” Thanks, Pete Seeger, I’ll remember that! One day as I was working in my office and another songwriter, named Steve Schalchlin, dropped by for a visit. We were just chit chatting about music when all of a sudden he stood up and made this announcement: “Our world is in trouble! Our government leaders should be protecting us but they can’t because they’re in bed with corporations and fossil fuel giants who are destroying our planet! So our political leaders can’t lead us. Our religious leaders can’t lead us either because they’ve lost our respect. So who’s it going to be? Maybe it’s the musicians! Maybe what the world needs is a new anthem… or lots of new anthems: Songs that lead us forward, bring us together, lead us in ways that might be able to heal our own world.” To that, my prayer response is, “Gosh, God… I think Pete Seeger and Steve Schalchlin are both right… Bring it on! Bless the musicians of the world. Let it be so. Amen.”
